Insurance and Warranty

Warranty

  • Your CCI computer comes with a special on-site warranty that covers such things as faulty parts and workmanship.
  • For complete details about what is covered by the warranty visit the Warranty info page on Lenovo's website.
  • The warranty does not cover theft, accidental damage or damage from a power surge or natural disaster.
  • ThinkPad batteries are covered by a separate 1-year warranty.

Accidental Damage

  • ThinkPad laptop packages for incoming students come with ThinkPad Protection, accidental damage protection from Lenovo.
  • ThinkPad Protection covers damage due to liquid spills on the keyboard, unintentional drops and bumps, electrical surge, or failure of the integrated LCD screen.
  • On-site repairs done under the ThinkPad Protection coverage carry a $100 per-incident deductible.

Insurance

  • ThinkPad laptop packages for incoming students also come with insurance coverage from Safeware.
  • This policy covers theft, flood, fire, lightning, earthquake and other natural disasters while in the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico. This policy exceeds what is generally available under standard homeowners insurance and your manufacturer's warranty.
  • The Safeware policy carries a low per-incident deductible of $100.

Note: All Safeware policies purchased before summer 2008 carry a $250 per-incident deductible.

How to Get Service On Your Computer

If you experience problems with your computer, call the IT Response Center (ITRC) at 962-HELP. The ITRC will help you determine whether your computer's problem is related to its software or its hardware. Usually, repairs to your CCI computer can be completed within 24 hours. However, if repairs are expected to take 48 hours or longer, the ITRC may be able to provide you with one of a "loaner" laptop to use while yours is being repaired. For more information, ask at the ITRC when you make your request for service.
