New CCI computer setup
New CCI computer setup – Undergraduate Students
New CCI computers ship with a customized software configuration developed at UNC Chapel Hill. When a new computer is powered on for the first time it will present a series of menu options required to complete the setup process. This process can take an average of 10-15 minutes to complete.
The first and most important menu choice is to select the type of user receiving the computer. This determines which software configuration to apply. Undergraduate students should select the first option and click Next.
Some menu options have a secondary choice. The Undergraduate Student menu option will allow for a Student Self Service and an Orientation Prep configuration. The Orientation Prep configuration is intended to be used by University ITS employees and is password protected. Undergraduate students should select “Student Self Service” and click Next.
Once the menu selections have been made a confirmation screen will appear. Select “Yes” and click Next.
After about 10 minutes the software configuration will have completed and an option to reboot or shutdown will become available. Select “Reboot” and click Continue.
When the computer reboots it will enter the Windows Out of Box Experience. The process that follows will allow you to set Windows configuration options and create a local user account. If at anytime you have a question please contact the Service Desk at 919-962-HELP.
