CCI laptop packages combine the best Lenovo and Apple products with an all inclusive package of warranty, accidental damage and insurance coverage. CCI laptop packages also include free on-campus tech support from UNC-Chapel Hill’s award winning technology support staff.

Products and pricing

The Carolina Computing Initiative offers deeper discounts on Lenovo and Apple laptops than standard educational pricing or most employee discount programs. You can shop online through UNC Student Stores or visit the UNC Student Stores Tech Shop in-person.

First-year students should purchase a four-year warranty, while transfer and current students may choose between a three-year and four-year warranty (warranty options affect pricing).

CCI laptop grants help cover the cost of a CCI laptop package, up to the full amount. To be considered for a CCI laptop grant, you must complete the CSS Profile application by the financial aid deadline (March 1). Laptop grants expire on October 15 of the year they were awarded. Once expired, grants cannot be reinstated.

A four-year warranty is included for first-year students (warranty options affect pricing). Incoming students placing orders by May 15 will be able to pick up their laptop downstairs in Student Stores at new student orientation sessions. Purchases made after May 15 may be picked up from the Tech Shop on the third floor of Student Stores. (When applying your CCI Grant Award to an online laptop purchase, do NOT include any dashes, spaces, or other symbols when entering your PID Number. Only numeric values.)

To upgrade software that was preloaded onto your CCI laptop, visit the ITS Service Desk.

At time of purchase, CCI laptop hardware cannot be upgraded, but you may be able to make some upgrades after purchase. Please check the upgrade options for your model as every model is different.

AFTER PURCHASE(only original components covered under warranty):

  • Apple models cannot be upgraded
  • Only Lenovo P16 Gen2 & T14 Gen5 model can upgrade RAM(Upgraded RAM not covered under original warranty)
  • All Lenovo models can upgrade SSD(Upgraded SSD not covered under original warranty)

Making returns

Need to return your computer? Customers have five business days to initiate a return by contacting the ITS Service Desk or customer care at UNC Student Stores. The computer must be promptly returned to UNC Student Stores. All returns must be in original condition in original packaging (i.e., box and all packing materials) and include all materials (brochures, disks, power supply, battery, etc.).
